Core Class

In CORE CLASS, dancers learn skills and steps which make up the art of Irish dance. These skills include turn out, crossing, and posture. In core class, they will learn steps in both soft shoe dances (reel, light jig, and slip jig) and hard shoe dances (treble jig and hornpipe). Generally, a dancer will complete at least two years of classes where they learn soft shoe dances before moving on to the hard shoe dances. Once a dancer starts learning hard shoe steps in their core class, they will continue with soft shoe, building on the skills and steps they have worked on in the previous years. Dancers are assigned to core classes based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, experience, abilities, skill level, and work ethic.
